// Public relay
Public relay rules
The public relay, relay.voidwire.app, is free and shared by everyone who uses Voidwire. These short rules keep it usable. They cover only the public relay; managed relays have their own terms.
Acceptable use
Use the public relay only with Voidwire apps on your own devices. Don't use it to break the law, to send malware or abuse, or to attack other systems. Don't flood it: no scripts or bots that send traffic in bulk, open connection after connection, or try to get around its limits.
What we can see and do
The relay can't read what you send: links, text and files are end-to-end encrypted between your devices, and we hold no keys to them. So we don't scan content, and we can't. Like any relay, it handles metadata: IP addresses, device public keys, when traffic happens and roughly how much. It writes no logs, so we act on traffic patterns as they happen (for example a flood of connections or uploads) and on reports. If we see abuse, we may rate-limit or block the IP addresses or devices involved. The relay has no way to contact you, so this can happen without notice.
Free and best effort
The public relay is free and run on a best-effort basis. We don't promise any level of uptime. It can go down for maintenance, hosting provider outages, network problems or attacks. When it's unreachable, devices on the same network still connect directly. We may change its limits, or end it. If you need more, run your own relay or use a managed relay.
Report abuse
Email security@voidwire.app with what happened, when (with your time zone) and any IP addresses involved. Please don't send us material you think is illegal; we can't see what passes through the relay and don't need it to act.
